WOW! I think that pretty much covers my reaction to the documentary “ Mickey Mouse Monopoly”. When you get down to it and see how Disney’s success has been so huge and what the contributions have been, you can’t help but feel a little shocked. Especially if you grew up watching all these Disney movies. For example, Pocahontas is or should I say “was” one of my favorite movies but after seeing this documentary and what really is portrayed throughout the movie I really don’t know if I can view it in the same way. Disney created a movie that ignores the historical influence of colonialism. This a great documentary that shows “what you see, is not what you get” or “there’s more to the eye than what is being shown”. So it in a way expands your knowledge about Disney and the message that it has “really” been delivering towards children everywhere, and what expense. I guess before watching the documentary I was just like any other person who thinks Disney is a “great” thing and how it is really cute for kids. I mean I can remember having birthday themed parties from Disney movies. The weird thing you could say is that I am taking a vacation with the family next month and guess where we’re going … DISNEY … you guessed it! So I will feel a little awkward being there especially when I am going with my two little sisters and they will probably be all excited and I’m just gonna be thinking … “If you only knew”.
