For me a person who has been a pioneer in this lifetime would have to be the author, Jodi Picoult. Maybe some people will not agree with me because she is the author of ‘’My Sister’s Keeper” but she does have other books that she has published. She delves deep into issues that are currently going on in life even though her characters are all fictional. For example, she has this book “Nineteen Minutes”I have yet to read it, but from what I have read it does have to do with a tragedy that happens at  a school. She as an author introduces themes that are a BIG deal right now like bullying and the consequences that occur from these actions. Another great book is “Plain Truth” I have actually seen the movie, it relates about the Amish lifestyle rarely witnessed by people who are not of that faith. Other issues she explores in books she’s written over the years, are life support, who has the right to choose when you die or should you remain living under life support even though you are comatose? And the most popular one of all, as mentioned before, My Sister’s Keeper, and let me say I did not like the movie just because of everything that was left out and made me fall in love with the book and the author. But the book now that’s something else, this book will leave and impact on you and will have you questioning what you would do if you were in the same predicament. My Sister's Keeper examines what it means to be a good parent, a good sister, a good person. Is it morally correct to do whatever it takes to save a child's life… even if that means infringing upon the rights of another? Is it worth trying to discover who you really are, if that quest makes you like yourself less? It goes deep into themes like stem cell research and what is known as “designer babies” … Is it morally and ethically correct to design a baby with all the great perks and everything?

So a movie that I don't know if its made an impact but it does make you think is "A time to kill" it's a movie with Sandra Bullock, Matthew McConaughey and Samuel Jackson. Set in Canton , Mississippi, the movie revolves around the rape of a young black girl and the arrest of the rapists and their subsequent murder at the hands of the girls father. The rest of the movie is a trial being held for the girls father for murder. The thing is that these two rapists where two white men who were racists and this movie is set around the time were racist was still a major issue especially in the South. You have the "KKK" acting up because of the murder of these men and you see a lot of racism in the movie. I saw this movie a while back, I thought it was an interesting title so I saw it. The movie is powerful to me because I have always been interested in racism and how no black man would ever get a fair trial in the South no matter what the circumstances were. It goes into themes like, what would you do if it were your own daughter? Don't think about if she's black or white ... truthfully would you take justice upon your own hands and kill the rapists of your daughter? Towards the end of the movie the lawyer defending the girl's father speaks in his closing argument about the details of how the rape went, he told the whole courtroom to imagine it with their eyes closed ... And his last statement was now imagine that she is white. That changed the gear of the direction the jury was going, it put into perspective the racism that was present during those times. Because it should not be okay for a little black girl to be raped and left for dead and a little white girl not!

WOW! I think that pretty much covers my reaction to the documentary “ Mickey Mouse Monopoly”. When you get down to it and see how Disney’s success has been so huge and what the contributions have been, you can’t help but feel a little shocked. Especially if you grew up watching all these Disney movies. For example, Pocahontas is or should I say “was” one of my favorite movies but after seeing this documentary and what really is portrayed throughout the movie I really don’t know if I can view it in the same way. Disney created a movie that ignores the historical influence of colonialism. This a great documentary that shows “what you see, is not what you get” or “there’s more to the eye than what is being shown”. So it in a way expands your knowledge about Disney and the message that it has “really” been delivering towards children everywhere, and what expense. I guess before watching the documentary I was just like any other person who thinks Disney is a “great” thing and how it is really cute for kids. I mean I can remember having birthday themed parties from Disney movies. The weird thing you could say is that I am taking a vacation with the family next month and guess where we’re going … DISNEY … you guessed it! So I will feel a little awkward being there especially when I am going with my two little sisters and they will probably be all excited and I’m just gonna be thinking … “If you only knew”.

Puerto Rico, there is a reason why I have stayed so long in this island and it’s because I just love it. The beaches, tropical weather, the rainforest and all the beauty it has to offer. However I’d be lying if I said this were the ideal place to live, yes I do live here and I don’t plan on moving out anytime soon but I’ve always said this island is a great place to vacation, not so great to build a life in because of all the problems that surround it. But hey I choose to stay day in and day out, cause the truth is if I wanted to leave I could … Most of my family does live in the states, but Puerto Rico just seems to have a grip on me tighter than a monkey’s knot.

First of all the crime, ugh I hate how there is so much crime in this island. Be it because of some petty theft, or because of something major like a homicide. There is too much crime in Puerto Rico. People from here say that all other people see about here is the crime and bad stuff, but then I say … Can you blame them? Have you taken a good hard look at our society? There is always something in the paper about some crime that happened. Just last weekend I experienced having my car keys stolen from me. Now all I seem to think about is that it could probably get stolen. Which, by the way, has been a great fear of mine … walking to the parking lot and not seeing my car there.

The government and politics in this island, and its corrupt ways when it comes to money. Just last week I was reading a news story about “alcaldes” or mayors of cities in Puerto Rico that increased their salary but somehow there is not enough money for the hard workers. Example last  week the people who work in a CDT (Central Diagnostic Center) in Rio Grande had not been paid in I don’t remember how long, but somehow the mayor salary did increase. Those are the WTF moments that you stay with well there is money for one thing, but not for the other.

And last but certainly not least, you know I couldnt write this without mentioning the unemployment issue. There is unemployment everywhere, and this issue is a very BIG one. There is being implemented cuts on federal and public government salaries, and what not. I have had first hand experience in this jack of all trades, and let me tell you it sucks. They say you dont have to be experienced for certain jobs, but once you go to an interview that is what they're looking for. My mindset is if you dont hire me, how am i supposed to gain experience? Yes I am in the military, but hey that's National Guard which means PART-TIME ... and I have nothing against that but I am always constantly on the look for another job because in this life everything revolves around money.

From the information that I have researched and gathered regarding Law 54 in Puerto Rico is that it is only applicable to married couples … oh and wait for it heterosexual couples. So the whole issue going on Monday about the march was about not “changing” the law. They want to change it, so that it can apply to ANY type of couple, heterosexual, homosexual and couples who simply live together but are not legally married. The issue present is that certain people think that once this law is changed the “definition” of what an “ideal” couple or family is will change everywhere like in how it is taught in school. So on Monday February 18, 2013 there were two sides present in San Juan, those who were against changing the law and those who were all for change. You have to ask yourself … what is at stake? In all my honest opinion, I don’t see anything at stake at least not anything that will have a negative effect. The only thing I see at stake is if its not changed, because that means not all couples have the same human rights as others. And that right there is unfair. We live in a society and generation where everybody should have the same rights as the next person to them.

So to dig in a little deeper into my stance on this whole situation, I am for all the change there can be upheld to this Law 54. I must admit I hadn’t really thought about this issue until it was brought up in class. The whole chaos behind changing one law and how people have reacted to it. How does changing a law where it will provide protection against people, become a law that if you change will somehow destroy the “definition” of what an “ideal” family or couple should be? Where did people get this idea? We are only discussing about the human rights that everyone should have no matter what sex, marital status or sexual preference they have. I believe that there are a lot of ignorant minds in this island and that they are not considering the bigger picture of the issue. They have somehow twisted this into how gay couples should not be married and how it is not right or let’s say how heterosexual couples should not live together without being married. Ugh! It just sickens me listening and reading about all the comments form people. Especially these religious folk, if you want to throw the words of the BIBLE towards me make sure you throw everything. Don’t tell me something is not right and is a sin, but then other things are not. Don’t tell me things for your convenience, either you’re all the way with the bible or you’re not. What right does anybody have to judge somebody else? Tell me … what is the right thing, the correct thing? Like I said before I am all for change, I believe that EVERYONE should have the same rights regardless of anything. No one should be superior to anybody because of something like sexual preference. And it is a sad truth that we live in a society where worse things are accepted, but equal rights for gay and straight couples are not. Oh and let me dive in a little to couples who live together but are not legally married. What’s wrong with it? Yes I am a person who doesn’t believe in marriage; I haven’t seen the best of examples when it comes down to it. So that’s another issue I have with this, I didn’t know if I resided with a boyfriend for example and things went wrong … wait the Law 54 wouldn’t apply because we’re not a married couple. WHAT!!?? Oh yeah they need to change it ASAP, everybody deserves to be treated equally, even though I know deep down that is not the reality. In my opinion I would love for CHANGE but I’ll believe it when I see it. I think the ignorance that is present will somehow prevail.

So it's Valentines Day yet again .... blah! Yeah it is not one of my favorite holidays, not because I am some single hating ass person, but because I happen to think it is overrated. You don't need a holiday to tell that special someone how much they mean to you, in my opinion Valentines Day can be ANY day! So I also dislike the romantic type of sappy songs and I don't know why they always seem to pop out on this particular day. These two songs I dislike because they have just been too overplayed and personally I'm just not the romantic type either, and both of these songs just ooze too much romaticism in a cheesy way!
My life is brilliant.

My life is brilliant.
My love is pure.
I saw an angel.
Of that I'm sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won't lose no sleep on that,
'Cause I've got a plan.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.

Yes, she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
Flying high. [ - video/radio edited version]
Fucking high. [ - CD version]
And I don't think that I'll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last 'til the end.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it's time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.
If I should stay
I would only be in your way
So I'll go but I know
I'll think of you every step of the way

And I... will always love you, ooh
I will always love you
You
My darling you
Mmm-mm

Bittersweet memories
That is all I'm taking with me
So good-bye
Please don't cry
We both know I'm not what you, you need

And I...
Will always love you
I...
Will always love you
You, ooh

[Instrumental / Sax solo]

I hope life treats you kind
And I hope you have all you've dreamed of
And I wish you joy and happiness
But above all this I wish you love

And I...
Will always love you
I...
Will always love you
[Repeat]

I, I will always love
You....
You
Darling I love you
I'll always
I'll always
Love
You..
Oooh
Ooohhh

There are so many love songs I love, but these two ... it's just something about the lyrics that make me wanna fall in love. I don't know I've always been a fan of Beyonce but this song right here just makes you wann dance for your man. :) and I Need Love from Robin Thicke it just takes you to another place in love. If you wanna take a look at the lyrics for Beyonce or Robin Thicke, they're right there.

Hahaha aww let me cut my phone back on man
Sorry but I gotta go back home it's morning (it's moooorning)

Right now he's probably slow dancing
With a bleached-blond tramp
And she's probably getting frisky
Right now, he's probably buying
Her some fruity little drink
'Cause she can't shoot whiskey

Right now, he's probably up behind her
With a pool stick
Showing her how to shoot a combo
And he don't know

I dug my key into the side
Of his pretty little souped-up 4 wheel drive
Carved my name into his leather seat
I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights
Slashed a hole in all 4 tires
And maybe next time he'll think before he cheats

Right now, she's probably up singing some
White-trash version of Shania karaoke
Right now, she's probably saying, "I'm drunk"
And he's a thinking that he's gonna get lucky

Right now, he's probably dabbing on 3 dollars
Worth of that bathroom Polo
Oh and he don't know

That I dug my key into the side
Of his pretty little souped-up 4 wheel drive
Carved my name into his leather seat
I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights
Slashed a hole in all 4 tires
And maybe next time he'll think before he cheats

I might've saved a little trouble for the next girl
'Cause the next time that he cheats
Oh, you know it won't be on me!
No, not on me

'Cause I dug my key into the side
Of his pretty little souped-up 4 wheel drive
Carved my name into his leather seat
I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights
Slashed a hole in all 4 tires
Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats
Oh, maybe next time he'll think before he cheats
Oh, before he cheats

Well I've never had a BAD Valentine's day, because I always go out with friends and celebrate it my own way. Even though this Valentine's day did suck pretty much, because I didn't get to spend time with my guy after I had everything planned out. But like I said earlier I don't particularly like this holiday because of the emphasis they have behind it. I don't find it necessary for that one day of the year show somebody how much they mean to me.

After pressing the link the first question I chose was ...
1. Views of Martin Luther King: Should they be taught in schools?
Martin Luther King Jr. was a great advocate for human rights, he believed that we were all equal no matter what out race or color of our skin was. A great quote from him that I stumbled upon is "I am not interested in power for power's sake, but I'm interested in power that is moral, that is right and that is good." He wasnt interested in having power just to feel superior, he was interested in doing what was morally right. In my opinion Martin Luther King should be taught in schools. He protested about laws that were unjust to the blacks and that just because judges and advocates of the law say that it is correct, you had to question this statement. For example some laws denied blacks access to government services for which they were forced to pay taxes, and there were also the laws mandating segregation. By teaching Martin Luther King in schools you ware teaching the students about morality and the difference between right and wrong. You are teaching the students how to question what other people say is right and to form their own opinion on beliefs of what they consider morally right.

2. Should cell phones be allowed in schools?
Personally this is a tough question for me ... I would like to say no because it is a BIG distraction in school and students don't pay as much attention to the education they are being given, but then again if it is merely used for emergency purposes then yes I do think students should be allowed to have cell phones in school. Another factor that should be considered is the age of these students with cell phones, but then again we have no authority over that, just the parents. In conclusion I say no cell phones shouldn't be allowed in school, if an emergency occurs the student will find out throughout the teacher or principal, and if we survived MANY years ago without cell phones in school I'm pretty sure we'll do just fine.

The question is “Do I like researching?” … Well it depends, I can do research about a place I would love to visit, clothes I would like to buy, music or simply just research on random things. But if you ask me “Do I like doing academic research?” my answer would be NO! I mean yeah I know it’s necessary to so some academic research because we’re in college and it helps broaden our minds more, but it’s not something I choose to do on my own, it’s something I have to do for my classes. Why I dislike it, you may ask? Because most of the academic topics that I have had to do research on have been pretty much boring, but hey that’s my opinion. I would have to say that the topic I most research about is places to visit and vacation trips to plan … I LOVE planning vacation trips, just last night I was researching about a discount that is available for military personnel in the Disney Parks and how much the overall cost of the vacation would be for summertime. Also I do a lot of research on job postings on the Internet, because I want another source of income. So you could say it’s not just all fun … Yeah most of the stuff I research are vacation deals and shopping online, but sometimes we need to get to research the nitty gritty stuff like schoolwork, jobs, political matters and so forth.

If you have read my description in 350 words … then you would know that my career path is split in two. I am currently studying towards being an English teacher but at the same time I have a military career in the Air National Guard. But I don’t think I would have chosen a different path because it truly is something that I LOVE! Then again if you were to ask me, what is a career choice that I would have never taken, I probably would have to go with being a Maid or Janitor.

So I have taken my career test ... and the result was that I am a TRUSTEE (whatever that means)! Basically a short description is that "they are dependable pillars of strength. They make good boy or girl scouts! 6% of the total population." And the list of jobs that I was given are not even remotely close to what I envision myself doing with my career, well maybe school principal but police officer, accountant and stock broker ... I think not!

So I researched another website and I got to know more in depth about what the personality of an ISTJ is, it's pretty interesting and it has a career choice that I have already chosen seeing that I am military.

I am new to this whole writing and blogging world, even though I’ve always found it kind of curious. See the thing is, I’m not that big on expressing my thoughts out there and having people read about it and comment on them … well then again there is Facebook also. So here it goes …

As you can see I chose the picture of a sunset at the beach, why you ask? The beach is one of my all time favorite places to go. The feel of the sun on your skin, the sound of the waves and sometimes the good company of your friends make it my ideal place to go when I need to clear my mind or when I want to do something fun. Especially living on such a tropical location like the island of Puerto Rico, who wouldn’t love the beach! Now to answer another question, why the sunset? Because there were other pictures of the beach, but what caught my eye most of this one was the sun setting on the beach. I could say how beautiful that scene looks when you’re gazing out onto the horizon, how it puts you in a state of peace and makes you think about pleasant things. Also it is a pretty romantic setting, if you ask me. It’s a place and an occasion you can imagine yourself sharing with that special someone … Ahh! J Another this is that my family and I are always taking little trips to the west coast of the island, like for example, Cabo Rojo, Aguadilla, Rincon etc. I guess you could say that my love for the beach has been because of these mini vacations. I can wake up at 9am and just see myself on the beach till the sun comes down.

“As I was looking out onto that gorgeous sunset at the beach, I started thinking about how much I miss him. I had come to the beach to be at peace, not to rehash old feelings. But upon seeing that romantic setting I couldn’t help but go back in my mind to that man that stole my heart once. Even though I was enjoying myself with my family on our mini vacation and I hadn’t thought about him all day, as soon as that sun set in that water … The memories came flowing in. “

-       It’s not a full story but it could develop into one … I don’t know I just started writing and it came to me.

This picture has reminded me of the great times I have spent with friends and family at the beach till the sun came down. And it has made me want to research other locations I have not visited in this island. Go on road trips with friends and discover where other beautiful beaches might be in Puerto Rico. See if by doing a little bit more of research I could find a setting that can surpass my favorite one … Culebra!
